1st CA Cavalry went to control supplies entering from Mexico to support the Confereracy. They were known as the "California Column" also the 2nd Cal Cav, Co B, the 1st Inf, the 5th Inf, and the 7th Inf, and the 1st Cal Veterans Volunteer Infantry were known as the "California Column".
